Experience of working with museum visitors in the Dobrivoje Beljkašić's exhibition

My name is Aida. I was born, raised, and schooled in Sarajevo, the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina. From the age of 12, I loved to make different forms of visual art. Painting is my first love, but I decided to study Art History. Life brought me to the National Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina, where I became interested in working with visitors. I have been working here for ten years with different social groups from the local museum community. In the last six years, I have been trying to increase the accessibility of the contents and meanings of our collection to people with intellectual impairments. I believe that art belongs to everyone and that it is not destined only for those who practice it, who are highly educated, and those with typical cognitive abilities. For this reason, but also because of the firm belief that high-value visual art can explain the life that surrounds this population, their emotions as well as the emotions of other people, I am trying to democratize the museum. I love my job because I feel that by opening up the world of art to "ordinary" people, I make a difference in their everyday lives and that I change their view of the world.
