Give Us a Chance

There we were met by Aida, the museum educator, who often invites us to art workshops and museum activities and helps us to better understand the world around us through art and to express ourselves creatively. Aida showed us a picture of Princip's Bridge from Sarajevo, which the artist painted 50 years ago. The picture is very beautiful with a lot of blue and full of shapes like semicircles, triangles, and lines going in different directions. Aida asked us if we knew why this bridge is special and important in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but also in Europe. She explained to us that more than 100 years ago, the important and great leader Franz Ferdinand was murdered on this bridge, after which the First World War began. She also explained to us the reasons for the assassination of the leader of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy: the dissatisfaction of the local population. Then Aida asked us to make our group pictures of the bridge out of different materials: cotton wool, glass pebbles, stones, felt, colored crepe paper, plastic straws, artificial grass, and others. For each of the materials, Aida asked us to describe how it felt under our fingers: the glass pebbles were cool and smooth, the stones rough and cold, and the crepe paper flexible and rough. From these materials, we made our Princip's bridge, the arches of the bridge from straws, the triangular decorative elements of the bridge from pebbles, and by gluing artificial grass to the base of the arches of the bridge. That day we learned the name of the bridge near our service center and we learned about its historical importance for the whole of Europe.
